Deck Dad BBQ - Favorite Rubs & Sauces

Deck Dad BBQ's “Go To Rub”

Jack of all trades

While there are certainly many rubs whose flavors go great with a particular meat or recipe, this rub is a great one size fits all BBQ rub. It is not the most complicated or earth shattering list of ingredients but it gives a great and consistent flavor.

How its done...

This one is pretty straightforward. Measure out and combine the ingredients. Be sure to work out any clumps in the brown sugar. This can be stored in your cabinet in an airtight container for weeks.

What you‘ll need...

1/2 cup brown sugar

1/2 cup paprika 

1/8 cup garlic powder

1/8 cup onion powder

2 tablespoons chili powder

2 tablespoons salt

1 tablespoon coarse black pepper

2 teaspoons cayenne pepper 

Deck Dad BBQ's “Honey Garlic BBQ Sauce”

Sweet and Tangy

This sauce is my take on a classic BBQ sweet sauce. Great on chicken or beef. This sauce is full of rich, sweet flavors!

How its done...

Warm up a medium saucepan on low heat. Add in 1 tablespoon of  light cooking oil (like canola so it has minimum impact on the flavor). Add in two cloves of minced fresh garlic and simmer. Next combine the wet ingredients (Ketchup, Worcestershire Sauce, molasses, water, and honey.) Then add in brown sugar and BBQ rub (I use my "Go To Rub") Let the whole thing simmer until everything is combined, stirring periodically. Cool and serve. This can be stored for 2-4 weeks in a mason jar in the fridge.

  • 1 Tablespoon canola oil
  • 2 Cloves of fresh garlic minced
  • 1 Cup ketchup
  • 1/8 Cup Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1 Tablespoon molasses
  • 1/8 Cup of water
  • 1 Teaspoon honey
  • 1 Tablespoon brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons Deck Dad BBQ "Go to Rub"

Deck Dad BBQ's Savory Dry Rub

Classic savory flavors

This rub is great on lamb, beef, or other savory recipes.

  • 2 Tablespoons kosher salt
  • 2 Tablespoons coarse black pepper
  • 2 Teaspoons garlic powder
  • 2 Teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 Teaspoon smoked paprika
  • 1 Teaspoon dried oregano

Deck Dad BBQ's Cajun Dry Rub

Cajun flavors to make your meal pop

This rub is great on anything you’re looking for that creole flare and a bold flavor! A great rub on meat or in recipes, you can even mix it with your Mac & cheese to give it some zip.

How its done...

Simple and straightforward. Measure out and combine the ingredients. This can be stored in your cabinet in an airtight container for weeks.

What you‘ll need...

  • 2 Teaspoons smoked paprika 
  • 1 Teaspoon paprika 
  • 1 Teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 Teaspoon coarse black pepper
  • 1 Teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 Teaspoons onion powder
  • 1 Teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 Teaspoon white pepper
  • 1/2 Teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1/2 Teaspoon thyme
  • 1/2 Teaspoon mustard powder

Mexican inspired rub for all of your southwest inspired dishes

This rub is great on anything from fajitas to meatloaf!

How its done...

Measure out and combine the ingredients. This can be stored in your cabinet in an airtight container for weeks.

What you‘ll need...

  • 1 Teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 Teaspoon coarse black pepper
  • 1 Teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 Teaspoons onion powder
  • 1/2 Teaspoon cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 Teaspoon cumin 
  • 1/2 Teaspoon Slap Ya Mama Cajun seasoning
  • 1/2 Teaspoon smoked paprika
